Transfer files from your host computer into DaDesktop
We've had a lot of requests for a feature that lets trainers copy files from their personal laptop or desktop straight into the DaDesktop machine. These could be presentation slides, ISO installers for a nested virtualisation setup for running several servers and desktops, or simply everyday files needed for a training app.
Our team recently rolled out a simple drag-and-drop file transfer feature in the latest Windows 10 and most Linux templates. Now you can just grab files from your own machine (your laptop or desktop) and drop them right into DaDesktop.

Right now, you can only transfer a single file at a time, but if you need to move multiple files, just zip them up and drag the archive across. The transfer system splits large files into chunks to keep things efficient, and you'll get the best results with a high-speed fibre connection. Any folder structure inside the archive (like a zip file) stays intact.

For Linux templates, at the moment there's no desktop shortcut to the Uploads folder like you'd see on Windows. Instead, you'll find your files in this location:
/home/student/uploads-to-dadesktop
In short:
OS Templates that currently have this feature enabled
- Debian 12 - v20240314 and newer
- Ubuntu 22.04 - v20240314 and newer
- Ubuntu 24.04 - v20240314 and newer
- Windows 10 - v67 and newer
OS Templates that do not have this feature enabled (as yet)
- Debian 11
- Almalinux
- Kali-linux
- Any older versions of the templates
Keep in mind that this is an early release, and we'll be expanding it soon.
