What DaDesktop Is Not
DaDesktop is a piece of software that doesn't yet have a clear category. Sometimes it's easier to describe what it isn't and how it differs.
Online Meeting Software
Is DaDesktop an online conferencing tool like Zoom or Teams?
Typically, you'd need to rely on Zoom, Teams, Skype, or WeChat alongside DaDesktop.
DaDesktop might eventually include built-in conferencing capabilities, though that's not a priority at present.
So, what do Zoom and DaDesktop have in common?
Both offer basic chat features.
Cloud Computing
Is DaDesktop comparable to AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or Alibaba Cloud?
Public cloud services are meant for hosting applications, whereas DaDesktop is designed for people to access remote desktops.
What does AWS have in common with DaDesktop?
From a user's standpoint, the similarities are few. Both let you operate a remote machine and run software, but AWS EC2 targets system administrators, while DaDesktop serves training participants, instructors, course coordinators, and management.
Some companies still rely on AWS or other cloud platforms for remote training, even though a typical public cloud tends to be costlier, slower, and less convenient than DaDesktop. DaDesktop is purpose-built for course delivery, not for general computing tasks.
Learning Management System (LMS)
Is DaDesktop similar to Moodle, Rise UP, Open edX, or other learning management systems?
LMS platforms are geared toward supporting education, such as university courses, or online learning. DaDesktop, on the other hand, is built for instructor-led corporate training. Its target audience includes corporate employees, government workers, and similar professionals in Portugal. It is not specifically intended for school or university students.
DaDesktop centres on an instructor-led approach, with the trainer present throughout the session.
What commonalities exist between an LMS and DaDesktop?
DaDesktop packs a range of features that overlap with those of an LMS, and in many ways go beyond them.
Using DaDesktop, a course administrator can enroll participants, monitor attendance, gauge engagement, verify whether students are connected, and even capture their screens during the training.
Much of this happens automatically. For instance, trainers don't need to take attendance—the system logs it. DaDesktop tracks user location, connection duration, completed exercises, skipped ones, and more.
Those who couldn't attend the live session can watch recordings and practice in the same environment that was used during the course.
